Cool off with a refreshing swim in the natural pool at the base of the waterfall.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel at 8:30 am and driven to Materuni village. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to explore the daily lives of the Chagga people and participate in a coffee tour. This tour will give you insight into how the locals grow and brew coffee.

After the coffee tour, you will head to the waterfalls, where you can spend some time taking in the breathtaking scenery. You may choose to have your packed lunch at the waterfalls. Later in the afternoon, you will drive back to Moshi.

You will be dropped off at your hotel in Moshi in the evening, bringing an end to your exciting day trip.

Important Things to Note About This Tour

You will typically arrive at Materuni Waterfalls between 9:30 am and 10:30 am. The journey begins at Materuni Village, where you’ll receive an introduction to the area and local Chagga culture, setting the stage for your adventure.

The tour features a scenic hike and an insightful coffee experience. The 2.5 km hike takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour each way through lush landscapes. The trail, though moderately challenging, offers stunning views and opportunities to spot local wildlife.

The 80-meter-high waterfall is surrounded by tropical vegetation. At the base, there’s a natural pool perfect for a refreshing swim. The area offers excellent photographic opportunities, capturing the cascade and verdant surroundings.

In the local Chagga village, you’ll learn about traditional coffee-making, from picking to roasting and grinding. This cultural experience includes tasting freshly brewed coffee and understanding its significance to the Chagga people.

Enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch made from fresh, local ingredients in a clean and scenic setting. This provides a relaxing break to reflect on your morning activities.

The tour, including the hike and coffee experience, typically lasts 4 to 5 hours, allowing ample time to enjoy the activities without feeling rushed.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes, lightweight clothing, a hat, and sunglasses. Bring a rain jacket, water, snacks, a camera, and cash for local purchases.
