Tarangire National Park, located 140 kilometers southwest of Arusha in Northern Tanzania, is famous for its stunning landscape with ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River. Known for large elephant herds, the park is home to zebras, giraffes, hyenas, warthogs, buffalos, and numerous predators and ungulates.

Its proximity to Arusha makes it ideal for short visits or as part of a Mount Kilimanjaro trek. Bird lovers can enjoy over 550 species, including colorful spurfowls, shrikes, and weavers. With rolling grasslands, acacia bushes, and distinctive trees, Tarangire offers an unforgettable safari experience.

Game Drives

Explore the park on guided game drives to spot elephants, lions, leopards, and a variety of other wildlife in their natural habitat.

Bird Watching

Discover the rich avian life of Tarangire, with over 500 bird species, including the colorful yellow-collared lovebird and the rufous-tailed weaver.

Nature Walk

Take a guided tour to see the iconic baobab trees, known for their enormous trunks and unique appearance, which are a highlight of the park's landscape.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha at 6:00 AM. The road transfer to Tarangire National Park will take approximately 2 hours from Arusha or 4 hours from Moshi. Along the way, you can ask your driver to stop for snacks, refreshments, or bathroom breaks as needed.

Upon arrival at Tarangire National Park, you will check in and enjoy a lunch break. Afterward, you will embark on an afternoon game drive, exploring the park and its diverse wildlife.

In the evening, you will return to your lodge or camp for check-in. You will have time to relax and freshen up before dinner is served. After dinner, you can enjoy some leisure time at the lodge or camp.

Important Things to Note About This Tour

Arriving at Tarangire National Park is normally around mid-morning between 10:00 am and 11:00 as you enter the park, expect to be greeted by a diverse landscape dominated by iconic baobab trees and expansive savannah plains

The park is renowned for its large elephant herds, which roam freely throughout the area, offering excellent opportunities for observing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

During your game drive, keep an eye out for other wildlife species such as lions, leopards, and various antelope species including oryx and kudu. Bird enthusiasts will also delight in the park’s abundant birdlife, with over 500 bird species recorded, including the endemic yellow-collared lovebird.

 Tarangire National Park is the 6th largest national park in the country characterized by a large collection of baobab trees, a spectacular large mammal population, and a variety of bird species, not to mention one of the largest concentrations of elephants in the country. You will enjoy a picnic lunch within the park and embark on an afternoon game drive and thereafter drive back to your Hotel in Moshi/ or the airport.

A picnic Lunch is served in the park around noon.

There are designated Lunch points where you can sit and dine as you reflect on your day out on Safari. There are also proper and modern clean washroom facilities.

A typical game drive session for a Tarangire day tour safari lasts between five to six hours overall.

It is good to know that the park officially opened its operations from 8:00 am and is officially closed at 4:00 pm no visitors are allowed in the park past 4:00 pm.

  • A Pop-up Roof: The Safari vehicles are fitted with a pop-up roof that can be elevated to give passengers a higher vantage point for better wildlife observation and photography.
  • Storage Space: There is typically ample storage space at the back of the vehicles for camera gear, binoculars, and personal belongings.
  • Safety Features: Vehicles are equipped with safety features such as seat belts and first aid kits, ensuring a safe and enjoyable safari experience.

Your Guide for the Tarangire safari day tour is a professional Naturalist trained and licensed by certified guiding institutions such as the MWEKA Institute of Wildlife Management based in Moshi –Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the guides possess valid driving Licences and over 8 years’ experience in Safari guiding in Northern Tanzania safari circuit. They are also trained in first aid care and regularly attend refresher courses to stay relevant in the tourism industry.

The main Languages spoken by our Safari guides are Fluent English, French, Spanish, and German.

This is a short and more relaxing trip that will require you to spend most of your time in the car you therefore need to dress light and comfortably in lightweight long safari cargo pants. Light T-shirts, sneakers for footwear, A Sun hut and sunglasses plus of course an extra fleece Just in case the weather changes.
