The Best Time for a Masai Mara Safari
Best Overall Time: July to October (Great Migration Season)
Why it’s special: This is when the Great Wildebeest Migration reaches the Masai Mara from the Serengeti. Millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles cross the Mara River, often with dramatic predator-prey action.
Wildlife: Excellent—huge herds, big cats (lions, leopards, cheetahs), elephants, giraffes, and more.
Weather: Dry, sunny, and pleasant. Fewer mosquitoes.
Safari experience: Peak season. Incredible game viewing, but also more tourists and higher prices. Check out our 4 Days Maasai Mara Migration Safari.
April to May (Long Rains Seson)
Why it’s less ideal: Heavy rains make roads muddy and some lodges may close. Wildlife is harder to spot due to thick vegetation.
Upside: Very few tourists, discounted rates, and dramatic skies for photos.
Downside: Wildlife is more dispersed and some areas may be inaccessible.
