Itinerary
Early morning pick up by Amet Adventures driver and drive to Marangu Gate, which is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes from Moshi town. After registration, begin your journey to the first camping site on the Marangu route using a well-maintained trail through the Montane Forest.
Walk through dense rainforest and coffee plantations as your guide explains the local flora and fauna. You’ll have a very good chance to witness Black and White Colobus monkeys as well as many different species of brightly-colored birds. Enjoy a picnic lunch and spend some time photographing the great views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
After lunch, descend to Marangu Gate where a transfer vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Moshi town.

Mandara hut is the first camping site on the Marangu route also Known as the Coca-Cola route and the only route with wooden accommodation cabins on Mount Kilimanjaro trekking routes.
Since you only hike to the first camping site at Mandara Hut at an altitude of 2700 M you aren’t required to be super fit but just an average fitness level is required.
The best time to go is during the dry months on Kilimanjaro which is normally from January to March and from June to mid-October and December.
The walk from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut takes Approximately 3- 4 hours and 3 hours descending back to Marangu Gate in a nutshell at least 8 hours overall (Depending on your pace and weather on the day)
You will spend anything Between 45 Minutes to One Hour depending on your other travel plans or departure /flight timing.
- Hiking Boots/Shoes: Choose sturdy, comfortable footwear with good ankle support.
- Comfortable Clothing: Dress in layers suitable for the changing temperatures. Consider moisture-wicking fabrics and avoid cotton.
- Rain Gear: Pack a lightweight waterproof jacket or poncho, especially if hiking during the rainy season.
- Daypack: Bring a small backpack to carry your essentials, ideally with a waist and chest strap for comfort.
- Water and Snacks: Carry enough energy-boosting snacks like trail mix, energy bars, or fruits water will be provided by Amet Adventures (at least 2 liters)
- Sun Protection: Include sunscreen (SPF 30+), sunglasses, and a hat to protect against the strong African sun.
- Personal Medications: If needed, pack any medications you regularly take, along with basic first aid supplies (band-aids, pain relievers, etc.).
- Camera/Phone: Capture breathtaking views and memories with a camera or smartphone.
- Personal Identification and Money: Carry your copy of your passport, you might require some cash in small bills for buying souvenirs on your way back and for tipping your mountain guides.
