Kikuletwa; Commonly known as Chemka Hot Springs, 40 kilometers from Moshi town is an oasis of sprawling fig trees with winding roots that surround the crystal-clear water that wells up from underground springs, a visit to the hot springs is indeed a perfect way to relax after your Kilimanjaro climb and safari.

Swimming and Relaxing

Enjoy swimming in the crystal-clear and refreshing waters of the hot springs, which can be as deep as 10 meters in some places.

Rope Swinging

Itinerary

The drive from Moshi to the hot springs takes about an hour. On the way, you will pass over bumpy slopes, past sugar cane plantations, and then through dried river beds, baobab, and acacia trees.

Spend the better part of the day at the “pool.” Meet the local people and enjoy the refreshing water, which is quite deep in some spots, up to 10 meters. You can camp under lush trees, enjoy your snacks, try the rope swing, or soak up the sun. Have a picnic lunch under the fig trees.

In the late afternoon, drive back to Moshi.

Important Things to Note About This Tour

Arriving at Kikuletwa Hot Springs is usually around mid-morning between 10:00 am and 11:00 am. As you approach the springs, expect to be welcomed by a lush, green oasis surrounded by fig and palm trees, offering a stark contrast to the surrounding dry landscape.

Kikuletwa Hot Springs, also known as Chemka Hot Springs, is a natural geothermal pool with crystal-clear, warm waters, perfect for swimming and relaxation. The water temperature is typically around 25-30°C (77-86°F), making it comfortable for swimming year-round. The springs are renowned for their clarity, providing excellent visibility for snorkeling and swimming.

A picnic lunch can be enjoyed around noon. There are designated spots where you can sit and dine as you relax and take in the natural beauty of the area. It’s advisable to bring your own food and drinks, as there are limited food vendors at the site.

A typical visit to Kikuletwa Hot Springs lasts between three to four hours, allowing ample time for swimming, relaxation, and enjoying a picnic lunch.

Dress comfortably for a day of swimming and relaxation. Lightweight clothing, swimwear, and sandals or water shoes are ideal. Don’t forget a sun hat and sunglasses to protect against the sun.
